Creating safe spaces for LGBTQ2S+ students and staff presents specific challenges. However, setting healthy boundaries around those spaces can be the largest challenge. We will discuss strategies and best practices to ensure that you are creating the most effective safe space you can for GSA/QSAs and LGBTQ2S+ students and staff in your school. Everything from set up of physical space, language use, curricular content, and navigating the legislative changes around Bill 8 and parental contact. Further, we will explore how to ensure you are setting healthy boundaries around that safe space to protect yourself and others. Dealing with compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, self care, and the code of conduct can be difficult to navigate when dealing with high emotion and the needs of at risk students. Come share in the discussion, questions, and safe and healthy space.
