How often have you been to a PD session where you were promised something you could “take with you and have ready to use on Monday” only to find that you did get great ideas or come away with a partially finished project that still required hours of work over the weekend to finish? In this session we will explore the science behind the use of sensory objects to create a calming environment and to help students who are struggling in acute anxiety settings. Many schools have created sensory/reflection/mindfulness/etc. rooms for students to utilize in times of need. With the increasing demands on spaces in schools, some of these rooms are being reconfigured back into classrooms, leaving teachers and students without this valuable support. The big “take home” from this session is that we will create a complete sensory room-in-a-box that you can take home with you and actually use on Monday with no extra work required!
