Students need engaging practice tied to strategies, not rote memorization. Come prepared to shake, dance and learn our favorite activities for working on early numeracy concepts including: subitizing, odd even, counting, number sequence, place value to 100, 1,000, patterning, operational strategies including doubles, double +1, make 10, 20, commutative properties of + and X, associative property for +, count on and back, and more. Each activity will start with a quick 30 second brain break. Participants will then see how this quick transition to a math fluency activity engages students and helps deepen their understanding. Student samples, gameboards, journal extensions will be shared. Ideas are easy to differentiate so that all students can be challenged and achieve success. Activities can be used whole class, or in small groups or centers.
