Feedback form is now closed.

The word “STEM” (an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) has become commonplace in the science classroom, but we don't often stop to think about what it means. In this interactive and collaborative session, we will define STEM and demonstrate how it can be leveraged to guide authentic learning. With the help of the presenters’ varied scientific backgrounds, participants will realize that STEM is all around them – including in children’s stories! By using storybooks in our teaching, we can make topics more relevant and exciting to students. This reinforces their learning by connecting it to topics they are already interested in and inspires them to continue looking for the STEM in everyday life. We will lead participants through our unique strategy of teaching STEM topics through stories. Participants will collaborate to develop hands-on classroom activities that connect science and math learning outcomes to storybooks.
